The first results from NASA’s “Year in Space” twin study are in! Astronauts Scott Kelly and Mark Kelly were part of a bold experiment to see how the human body fared after a year in space. The results show glimpses of how stressful a trip to Mars could be for the human body.

What was the biggest result, according to the researchers?

“The greatest importance of the study is to show that we can do it,” says Johns Hopkins geneticist Andrew Feinberg, who was part of the team that performed the study. “I don’t think people realized it would be so easy to do genomics on astronauts in space.”
